Welcome! I am glad you are checking out my blog, where I share my favorite day-to-day recipes with you. My name is Alexa, but friends call me Lexa. I was born and raised in Germany and am now proud to be a permanent resident of Canada, where I work full-time in a great job and live with my significant other ,Tom and our dog Revel. I love to talk about food and to capture and share my favorite recipes. That is, why I created Lexa's Recipes.
Cooking - Duty or Hobby?
On a lot of days, when I come home tired from work, preparing dinner is just another unpopular duty. However, preparing a delicious meal from scratch is a very creative and rewarding process. It takes my mind off work and I usually find myself more relaxed at the dinner table. The greatest reward is, if my food makes my friends and loved ones happy and smile.
On weekdays, I try to stick with easy recipes. Meals that I can prepare quickly within 30-40 minutes. I work a busy Monday to Friday job. Therefore, easy, fresh and delicious are the criteria for a recipe to make it into my weekday meal plan. On weekends however, I like to experiment, try recipes I have never cooked before or prepare more complicated dishes.
What type of recipes I post
What type of food I cook? Well, that really depends on my mood and what I am craving. Variety is a very important to me!
I am neither vegan or vegetarian. However, I feel more energized if I stick to a vegetarian or vegan diet for most of the week. Therefore, you will find a variety of vegan and vegetarian recipes on Lexa's Recipes besides recipes containing meat.
I am interested in all type of cuisines! My grandmother taught me the basics of traditional German kitchen. Later in my life I spend over 10 years working in hospitality and whenever I got the chance, I helped out in the kitchen.
I was fortunate enough to be exposed to a variety of different cuisines from early childhood on. I love to try new foods and spices, experiment and cook whatever my brain comes up with. I also enjoy to create crossover recipes and I absolutely love all kinds of Pasta dishes!
Quality is important! I do believe that the quality of ingredients is important and that organic versus traditionally farmed makes a big difference for your overall health. We stay away from additives, fillers and preservatives as much as possible, which is why we try to avoid industrially processed foods the majority of the time. As for meat and dairy products, organically raised, free of hormones and antibiotics, as well as grass fed are criteria I look when shopping for groceries.
